Kapa Haka

I was so excited but nervous standing in my underwear singing and dancing to our Maori songs. The girls were at the front of the stage and the boys at the back and we were about to sing E TE ARIKI. Matidia yelled out 'WHAKAPURI' and Moana went in a group. It wasn't that pleasant because of people behind me yelling instead of being smooth with the song my brain forced me to look back.

When we finished the song the boys walked backward facing the audience. The reason why the boys went back was it would be disrespectful if our backs are facing the audience it means that ' and the girls went to the side and some went back. It was time to sing UTAINA.

It was a great song and I was really enjoying it while I was doing that, I pictured the crowd naked to make me feel less nervous. while we were singing the song the boys transitioned forward and the girls went back. We were still singing until it was time for our HAka.

Our first Haka was the Wainui Haka. Bay called some words and we started our first. I thought it was really fast but I just went with the flow, Some people were making it go faster but I didn't mind. Our last Haka was Kamate. Our leader yelled out 'TARINGA WHAKARONGO KIA RETE KIA RE KIAMO'  and then we all yelled 'HI'.

The rest of the Kapa Haka was great we sang RONA 3 times and sang WAINUI E twice, the second time we sang WAINUI E twice, is the boys went off the stage and the girls went off in rows. We were still singing when we were off the stage it was amazing!

After Wai and Nui sang their songs the whole school sang our school song TU MAIRA. It was an amazing experience and one of the best Kapa Haka I've done.

Brain Facts For Kids Part 2

The brain weighs just 3 pounds (about 1.3 kg) and is a wrinkly, pink organ that feels a bit like a soft mushroom.

Hmm, not sure we want to touch it too much! It is about 6 inches long (16cm), about 5.5 inches wide (14cm) and nearly 4 inches deep (10cm).

But this magical machine controls everything you do from thinking, learning, feeling emotions, even breathing and your heart rate.

This is one seriously complex organ that has baffled scientists for years.

Even though the brain is just 2% of your body weight, it uses around 20% of all your energy from the blood and oxygen in your body. That’s a lot for such a small organ. Your brain stops growing when you're 18, but don’t be calling your parents silly just yet. It actually keeps on developing and learns new things until you’re in your 40’s. So your parents are really super smart! You won’t be able to fool them.

Ever see a picture of a person with a light bulb over their heads? Well this fact puts a whole new light on those pictures (“new light” – get it?). Did you know that your brain actually produces enough electricity to power a light bulb? Yep, it’s true! It would be cool to know how to actually power up that light bulb with our brains, maybe someday we’ll know.

Brain Facts For Kids Part 1

You will not believe how amazing the brain is, and we’ve got the coolest brain facts right here. Ever wondered who the boss was? Well of course it’s your Mum or Dad, but the boss of your body is actually your mighty brain!

It helps you remember how to get to your friend’s house, makes you blink without thinking, and even controls your dreams. But it’s way more than that.

Read on, you will be seriously surprised – oh and your brain will be working

The Brain – an Awesome Organ

Bet you think a computer is the best thing in the world right? Think it’s super speedy and can do everything? Well, it’s not. Welcome to the brain…it’s much more powerful than any supercomputer you can find!the brain

Think about when you have to act in a hurry, maybe a glass is just about to fall off the table.Your brain controls everything that you need to do to save that glass from falling. First, your eyes check out what’s going on, then tells your brain how quickly you need to react, and then your muscles spring into action.

That is super speedy timing and is just from one little organ in our bodies. No computer could ever come close to that!  Cool hey.

Math Whizz

This week our class learned a math website called Math Whizz. Math Whizz is awesome because you can learn a lot from the website, addition and subtraction to equations that are really advanced. But most importantly it's at your level.

I think I am really good at maths so I get harder equations from the rest of the class. I get maths questions like what is the remainder of this division? 3 digit numbers times 3 digit numbers too. There are gems that you complete weekly the first week I got nine gems but this week I'm aiming to beat that.

There are coins if you are wanting to fill your space or jungle. I have a lot of coins because I haven't been spending them yet but I'm going to do that now. You get about twenty coins per 5 questions. When you have a lot of coins you can buy stuff like animals or furniture for your jungle or space theme.

If you are wondering what the jungle and space theme is, I will tell you right now: When you log on for your first time it tells you what theme you want jungle or space. When you have chosen your theme you have a background of your avatar in space or in the jungle. The stuff you buy with your coins is the stuff the paragraph before this one. You can put the space animals or furniture in the space or jungle background to fill it up... So I hope you like and get what I said because if you like math LOG ON!

Healthy Lifestyles

This week we wrote down four answers to four questions to do with healthy lifestyles. We have to write around 50 words per question. For the first question I wrote over 100 words.

Term Two Holidays

It was so amazing when it was the holidays but it was short too. I loved it because we went to open gymnastics on the first week and on the second week, we went to Rotorua for three nights and that was awesome two!

The first week amazing we had open gym soccer camp for one day and open trampoline.

I loved the gymnastics club me and some other people (some came from my school) built forts like, houses, huts, castles, and other things.

Over the days they had a tumbling track that we can play on but, there is only two people aloud on per run.

Anyways it had a foam pit where you can bounce off a trampoline and into it.

Me and my brother Arthur went to open trampoline to to play around, I was practicing my tricks for my trampoline competition in September.

The next week was even better, are family met with are second cousins at Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park which was amazing

We did so many things like the aquatic center, motion - laser tag and flip out, mountain biking, and more.

And best of all we went on the luge!!!

Long division at home

This week, I was determined to learn how to do long division. It's quite weird at first. But when you get the hang of it, it's quite straight-forward.

Here is an example. What is 4698 divided by 3?

Well, there are many ways to do this.

This first is to pick up a calculator and type in 4598÷3. But that's too easy!!!

The second way is to try to guess it. But you'll probably be wrong:)

There is another way which is suppppppper fun if you love long division or math! You go like this:

3⟌4698

Here are the steps:

a) First divide 4/3. The answer is 1 with remainder 1 (for example: 1R1).
You then put the first 1 above the 4, and the second 1 in “superscript” to the left of the 5.
1
3⟌41698

b) Then you divide 16/3. The answer is 5 with remainder 1 (for example: 5R1).
You then put the first 5 above the 16 and the 1 in  “superscript” to the left of the 9.
Do you get the pattern now? If you don’t read it again.

1 5
3⟌416198

c) Now you divide 19/3. The answer is 6R1. Let us put that in now.

1 5 6
3⟌4161918

d) Now you divide 18/3, which is EXACTLY 6!! (That was a fluke to get it without a remainder).

1 5 6 6
3⟌4161918

e) So what’s the answer?! IT’S 1566 !!!! WOW! Now you can check it on your calculator.

Back to School

I love coming back to school for a lot of reasons like friends, learning, sports ect. This is why I'm going to share why I like coming back to school!

Boy Best Friends Cartoon - Friends Png, Transparent Png - kindpng
The next thing I like about coming back to school is learning: I love learning here because there is so much to do. Instead of a boring old home, I get to work in a classroom which is very lucky.  The last thing I like about learning is that you have classmates you can work with, there are no classmates in lockdown. When you get help you ask a friend
balls flashcards on Tinycards

My first reason why I like coming back to school is friends: I have been seeing friends on the beach and when I’m biking, but here at school I never have to bike or run on the beach they are already there! You just have to find them in the school area and there he/she is (except if you or your friend are sick). I also like it because you don’t have to stay home and get BORED in front of the computer and work for six hours.

The last thing is sports: I love playing sports at the end of the day playing annihilation, bull rush, and much more! I also can’t wait until Interschool athletics and other sports coming up. The other thing I like about sports is that we have morning tea and lunch we get to play around and that makes us have a lot of fun and get our energy out so we can have a break from our minds and get working after that!

Swimming Sports

Swimming sports was awesome I got really good places, I LOVED ALL OF THE STROKES, Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke, it was so amazing.

My first stroke was freestyle I was excited and nervous, but more excited because I have done swimming sports for four years! Koka Ngaire (my teacher) called some of the year six contestants, only about 5 because there is not as many lanes as there is year sixes. The only people I can remember who I was facing were Bay and Rasmus. When Koka Rozie (a year 4&5 classes teacher) pressed the buzzer off we went. Bay was passing me for the first length, but when I tumbled Bay didn't, so we were equal but when he was getting out of juice I went as fast as I could, then I hit the wall then one WOOHOO! My principal Koka Nolian gave me a red stick which it means I came 1st place.

The next heat was backstroke and I wasn't feeling to good about this because I'm not that good at it. and I have the fastest swimmer in the school Mako. When it was our turn we hoped in the pool and put our hand on the bar of the diving medal stand then the buzzer went off BZZZZ! Off we went. We have to do two laps of Backstroke and I was nailing it on my first lap but on my second, I ran out of juice and I started to slow down and Mako past me, I came second but it still was worth a shot.

The last stroke was breaststroke I thought we had to push off the wall but we are aloud to dive in. When Koka Rozie pressed the button I dove in, but I dove in to early so it was a close race. When I was swimming for my first lot of my stroke I'd forgotten it was breaststroke and I accidently put my arm over my body to do freestyle but I got reminded by myself in the water because everyone else was doing it. I was pushing REALLY hard when I put my arms and my legs together to take my first stroke of Breaststroke. I think I was smashing the race. We get to do 1 lap of breaststroke but I felt that I could do two so I won because it was so short. By the way when mum was videoing me she yelled OLIVER WOOHOO! and THAT'S MY BOY OLIVER! also, YOU CAN DO IT OLIVER YAAAAAAAAA!!!!! and all of the parents were staring at her like she was crazy she was so embarrassing.

Wainui Beach School Triathlon

Triathlon day was awesome. It was so fun and challenging! I had a team with three friends including me, Krishna, and Ben. It was on Monday the 16th of March I was ready. It wasn't a normal Tri like the Weetbix one because it has a shorter distance and it goes run, bike, swim. I did the run Krishna did the bike and Ben did the swim so I was up first.

On your marks, get set... GO! I ran at a decent speed really loving it, but then it kind of got serious and I was just coming first by a quarter of a meter I had to do 800 meters of running. I did two laps about half of a really big field near an indoor pool. The pool was called Enterprise Pools and that's where Ben was going to do the swim. For the first half of the first run I was in front but the next thing I knew was Bay was in front of me. I slowed down a wee bit then I think that encouraged him to go faster on our second lap this boy named Mako was coming third and he was the individual same with Bay but Mako. Anyway, I didn't need to worry about Mako yet. when we were close to finishing our lap, Bay ran REALLY fast and I would've but the time he was at the finish line I was looking back to feel sorry for Finn because he was like 20 meters away to the second to the last person jogging.

When I ran at the finish line I tagged our biker Krishna and he biked off one lap of the whole field while Bay was coming 1st. He was coming to the same place as me in running. Bay is also pretty fast at biking and I was surprised he wasn't tired and coming 1st. Krishna was doing well but not as good as Bay. When my teammate hopped off the bike he whizzed off to Ben and tagged him. Ben ran as fast as he could then he dived in the pool I was waiting out the finish line and I wasn't allowed to see how he was going so that was annoying. Somehow I saw Mako and Bay come out before Ben. Mako was just behind Bay when they passed the finish line. After about two other people Ben was out he was running as fast as he could then he whipped through the finish line our team came 5th at least it is in the top five. I can't believe bay one and he is individual that must've been hard. The reason why I thought I should do a team is that I haven't been in a team before and I just want to experience it next time I want to do individual I don't know why it's easier then team. Anyway when we packed and ready to go home dad was a little naughty and brang me, Ben, and, my brother to a Bakery and we had a treat!

First Blog in Moana Learning Hub

The first 3 weeks in Moana hub was awesome I think I had a great start in here. On the first day, we were going around the classroom and asking questions to other people, for example, if somebody else is left-handed or has been to more than one school you write it down on a sheet of paper and you keep going with the questions. For our quick writes, we do something vs something, I think I can remember some of the ones we did like Sushi vs Pizza, Robots vs Aliens, Jurassic vs Ice age, Flying vs Invisibility, Chocolate vs cheese, and Unicorns Vs dragons, for the flying vs invisibility I got about 440 words in 2 sessions and I still had more to write about.

When it was like Week one on Wednesday we started up swimming for our practice on the day it is school swimming, I also past a surfing test, it was 20 lengths of the pool, the reason why we did the test is because if we are out the back surfing peacefully then a 4 meter have hit right on you and you feel like heading back to the shore you would have to swim about 5 lengths of the whole Indoor pool at the Olympic Pools. later in the week, we had Buzz groups, for our Buzz groups, we have about 5 or 6 people doing it in our group we had 6 people Wolfe, Te Atawhai, Kale' a Harry, Trey, and me. There is this game called Tension the instructions are is that our teacher tells us a subject like what 10 green vegetables in about a minute, once we are finished writing 10 green vegetables the teacher she yells out some of the most common vegetables that are green.

When it got later in the week we started doing stuff like our Waitangi Booklet, our Waitangi Booklet helps us learn about the Treaty of Waitangi Day and how it was made, our booklet is a drawing/ writing book. We also wrote our 5 goals in our writing book. Then once the teacher thinks it's good we write it on a sheet of paper then you colour it in, one of my goals were working on my long division 2x per day. The last thing I can remember is when we did our portrait, we traced a picture of ourselves then we cut our drawing out and put it on a plate that we colour in.
